Does this Lighthouse Look Familiar to You?

Well? Does it? Have you watched the Netflix show The Outer Banks? If you have you might recognize this lighthouse and some other photos because parts of the show was filmed in Hunting Island State Park, in South Carolina.

If you didn’t already know there was a time that I lived in Yamassee, South Carolina. While staying there I tried to explore as much as I could. Hunting Island State Park was one of the places I got to explore that I really loved. The state park is absolutely stunning. Imagine my excitement when watching the show and actually recognizing some of the locations from when I stayed there. So I figured what better time to talk about Hunting Island State Park than now, right before season 2 of The Outer Banks airs tomorrow!

Attracting over 1 million visitors every year Hunting Island State Park is 5,000 acres, and 5 miles of it being beaches. Hunting Island State Park is located in South Carolina West of Beaufort.

For any questions and reservations here is the Hunting Island State Park Website: https://southcarolinaparks.com/hunting-island

The historic lighthouse is a real sight to see.

The lighthouse featured above is South Carolinas only publicly accessible lighthouse. It was originally built in 1859. Did you know it takes 167 steps to get to the top of the lighthouse? That’s a lot of steps. Do you recognize it? No? If you haven’t already watched the Netflix series The Outer Banks, then you might not recognize it. But if you do watch the show will probably recognize this lighthouse! Apparently they were filming here in 2019, which was the same time I was here, how cool!! I did not get to spend a lot of time at the park, unfortunately. It is most definitely one of those places I would love to go back and visit.

They have a campground at the park that has 100 spots that I would love to stay at. I read another blog recently of a family that stayed in the campground and they said it was a really great experience. I did get the chance to spend an evening in the campground with a friend who was staying there and I will say it was very nice.

If you want to check out the blog I read about camping in the Hunting Island State Park Campground check it out here.

Like I said the beaches are stunning, and they weren’t very crowded when I was there either.

The fact that there are 5 miles of beaches makes it really easy to find your own place to hang out even if it were busy. Unfortunately, I only got to explore the beaches, the lighthouse area, and the campground. And naturally, I forgot to take photos of the campground, but there is so much more to explore. The park is full of trails for hiking and biking. Further down the beach is a beautiful pier I have seen photos of as well. So if you do get the chance to visit make sure you check out everything there is to offer!!!

If you’re checking out some of my photos, keep in mind I was here in 2019. I have heard that the sections of the beach that were full of old trees have been cleared. I haven’t had the luxury of visiting again so that’s something I am not sure of.

Next trip to South Carolina you plan, check out the entire Beaufort area! I promise you won’t regret it!!

Do you think this state park will be featured in season 2 of the Outer Banks? I hope so! Guess we will find out tomorrow!!
