Easy DIY Freeze Pops You Can Make at Home

by jessicalynnschinkovec

What better time to get back to blogging than summer, my favorite time of year. And man is it beautiful here in Pennsylvania, it only took until July. I suppose we will see how long it lasts. Anyway, a friend of mine introduced me to these awesome freeze pop ziplock-like baggies to DIY your own freeze pops a while ago. Ever since I have been wanting to try them out.

How cool is it that you can DIY your own freeze pops at home with whatever flavors you want? You can literally make anything up. Once I tried them I fell in love. Over the fourth of July, I decided to make some alcoholic freeze pops to take out on the boat and they were a huge hit.

First things first I am going to share with you the most important part of this entire blog. Although the recipes are important, the only way it will work out is if you have the freeze pop bags. You can’t DIY freeze pops without the baggies to put them in. I am sure there are many different kinds out there but I found mine on amazon. Heres the link to the frozip baggies.

Now, I am going to list some of the reciepes I have tried so far. You can come up with anything you want using so many different ingredients. These are my personal favorites.

Some of my favorite diy freeze pop recipes:

Alcoholic Watermelon Margarita Pop

I use my favorite homemade watermelon margarita recipe for these. What’s great about it is every time I am making a watermelon marg I just make a nice large batch so that I can use the extra for freeze pops. These are a huge favorite in my house. I made the watermelon margaritas in a pitcher for my 30th birthday party back in May and people went nuts over it. I also made a batch of the freeze pops to take on the boat last weekend for the 4th of July and they were perfect.

  • Fresh watermelon blended
  • Lime juice
  • Spash soda water for easy blending
  • Splash of sours for flavor
  • and ofcourse tequilla, I use Silver Jose or 1800 preferably
Yuuumm.

Alcoholic Lime Margarita Pop

I also did a skinny regular lime margarita in these pops for the 4th of July weekend as well and people loved them. For those ones, I used the same ingredients as above but no watermelon. Let’s be honest I also threw in a little more tequila in those as well, so they never froze all the way.

  • Lime juice
  • Soda water
  • Sours mix
  • and tequilla ofcourse

The best part is when they start to thaw they become more of a slush which is like a little mini frozen marg. If they thaw out all the way they are also still tasty! What a perfect way to have some premade margaritas on the boat, and we all know margs are super refreshing. The best part is they are made with real watermelon!

Alcoholic Pineapple Pop

Pineapple is one of my favorite refreshing fruits for summer so I figured I would experiment with it to see what I could come up with. I will say blending pineapple is a little difficult. Blending the pineapple left a little bit of a funky texture but that is to be expected with real fruit sometimes. The freeze pops were delicous, especially if you love coconut rum. It had a very bechy feel to it.

  • Blended fresh cut pineapple
  • Coconut rum
  • soda water for easier blending
  • and last a little bit of pineapple juice for flavor

And a few without alcohol just in case..

Non- Alcoholic Strawberry lemonade pop

Of course, we all know everyone is trying to be healthy these days, and sometimes healthy isn’t as fun. For these pops, I decided to try to keep them semi-healthy by using real fruit that way they are still nice and sweet but more of natural sugar and man did they turn out tasty. Another great thing to make and freeze to always have something nice and refreshing in the fridge.

  • Fresh strawberries blended
  • Coconut water for easy blending and hydration
  • Fresh lemonade for a little splash of flavor

Although these ones don’t have alcohol in them I feel like you could throw a little tequila and lime juice to make them like a strawberry margarita or even just a little Titos vodka would probably taste good aswell.

You can come up with so many different ideas. Next plan on tring some healthy smoothie reciepies as a freeeze pop I think. What mixtures do you think might taste good in a diy freezr pop?
